Vinyl Cutter – Pen Mode

Continuing with new technology this is something I really love. In the DJCAD Make Lab there is a Vinyl Cutter. This is used for – as you can imagine – cutting vinyl to create stickers, labels and so on. There is however a mode where you can place a pen inside, so instead of cutting the machine follows a vector line created on Illustrator. I thought what better way to test how a machine can recreate my circle drawing! Turns out it does a pretty good job except instead of drawing circles it interprets them as small abstract lines that join together. I rather like the outcome. It has tested the machine to it’s limits though and it has broken down on several occasions. I rather like the ‘error’ lines that are created though…
